He drew the line in one sentence. Magic is the attempt to violate the decisions of the Paraclete regarding the flow of reality.

Everything given by the Lord, he said, has nothing to do with magic. By its nature it is a gift.

Set beside that, the Christian liturgy does the opposite thing. It calls on the Creator of the world, seeks union with Him, and surrenders absolutely to His will. He took the Lord’s Prayer phrase by phrase and showed it to be, in every line, an act of acceptance and surrender to the decisions of the Paraclete.

And this, he said, is what separates the Inner Prayer from every other invocation. In it you ask for the mercy of the Creator. Everything else, however pure the intention, risks setting a personal will above the will of the Maker.

That is the distinction this whole book rests on. Not power. Surrender.
